Slow Progress
Issues
I've run into a few issues with enemy knockback, its not behaving the way I want it, likely conflicting with the mp_grid set up. I've tried a few different approaches using it and keep hitting some problems. I think i might have to resort to writing my own A* path finding system, although I wanted to avoid that in the hope that the out of the box solution from Game Maker would just "work" I guess there are some things you just can't force it to do without some awkward workarounds. Also this is hampering progress on the rest of the game, I'm focusing too much and wasting time on trying to make it perfect at this stage when I should just get it "good enough". This is a prototype so there will be time for polish later.
So what should I FOCUS on?
Well there are other things i've coded that need artwork, so I think a nice UI for the spells and Items would be a good place to focus. those systems work great and I can easily expand on those in multiple ways. but it looks jank so It needs to be juiced.
Other things that I can focus on is getting the sprite art finished for the main character, getting her walk cycles done, and attack animations for her and the enemy skeleton too. finishing these will be the blue prints for how all of the art is produced for the rest of the enemies in the game.
It's very nearly Christmas
what a year, I feel like i've not achieved enough, I wanted to be at a better position with Disavowed than I am right now, but i've been hit with some imposter syndrome type stuff. i'm putting it down to the stress of the holidays, programming has never been my strong point. i'm an artist and animator first, so trying to make my vision work with the code has its challenges and slows progress. Learning more, and i'll keep plugging away at it one day at a time. If I can make just 1 thing work or fix 1 issue, or draw 1 sprite per day, that's a win.
Merry Christmas everyone, thanks for following my progress on this. I'm hoping i'll speed up after i've gotten the christmas obligations out of the way! Until then, please check out the other titles I've got on my page, Dark Moon is playable in the browser and i'd love more feedback on that one.
